Black Jack Betting Strategies
Almost everyone has heard of the millions of dollars won by M.I.T. students during their trips to Nevada. It is the story of a team of bettors who consistently won by using card counting and betting big at the right times. But it is also the story of kids who put themselves in massive danger by breaking a cardinal rule, “don’t cheat in a casino”.
Whether or not the black jack betting strategies they were using is legal or not is irrelevant. The pit bosses saw them as a massive threat so security stopped it.
For the average bettor, you would have a hard time employing a system like this. It’s hard to find a group of team members who each have both the ability to count cards effectively and the courage to try. If you play Blackjack online, it’s nearly impossible to make card counting systems work because most sites use randomizing programs which remove the shuffle.
But there are still several Black Jack betting strategies you can employ alone and be effective. Take a look at a few, and decide which is right for you.
The Martingale System is a commonly known system, but it is also very risky. In this system, you make a series of bets, your goal always being to win one minimum bet.
If you win the first hand, that series was a success and you start a new series. It’s when you lose that it gets tricky, because now you double your original bet. If you lose again, simply double your last bet, and continue until you eventually win. Once you eventually do win, you get back all your losses, plus the original bet.
This system would be flawless if you had an unlimited amount of time and an unlimited bankroll. Unfortunately, most people have neither. One of the best tips for black jack is: don’t try this strategy! Along with the huge risks you take on your double up bets, you can be crushed even harder if you are already doubling past what you feel comfortable with and then get dealt cards that require you to split or double down, or worse, both. With one lucky turn for the dealer, you can be going home unsatisfied.
The Paroli System is setup the exact opposite of the Martingale System, so that instead of doubling when you lose, in this system, you double when you win. This allows you to double up with “house money” and take minimal losses. This system has proven very effective when worked along with a good money management strategy and knowing when to cash out.
The Cross-out System is a less volatile revision of the Martingale system. In Cross-out, you write down a series of random one digit numbers, and bet the total of the first and last digit of the series.
So for example, if your series were 1 2 3 4 5, you first bet would be 6 units. (The 1 and 5 added together) If you won, you cross out the 1 and 5, and continue with the system. But if you lost, you would write the number of chips you just lost at the end of the row and it would be part of your betting pattern. You continue with this system of betting until all the numbers on your sheet have been crossed off.
This System can work, but it requires discipline, and it requires the use of pen and paper to be accurate, so it is best used for playing online.
Whatever your goals are, keep searching the internet and friends for more tips for black jack. Work with a few different systems until you get one that works for you. Once you have a happy balance, stick with it and practice good money management and you could be living the dream.
